¡Viva el Mariachi Femenil! - A Tribute To Women in Mariachi Music | 1903-2014

March 29, 2014

San Gabriel Mission Playhouse - San Gabriel, CA

This was the event that inspired many years of festivals and concerts celebrating women in mariachi music from Mexico to Canada. It was the first-ever tribute to women in mariachi. Performing at this event were the best mariachi musicians at the time, including the innovative Mariachi Flor de Toloache from New York, two-time Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Divas from Los Angeles, and songstress Dinorah Curkendall of Sacramento. New York’s Mariachi Flor de Toloache held their west coast debut at the festival. Also performing were Grammy nominee Trio Ellas. A special highlight of the evening was the appearance of two members of Mexico’s first all-female mariachi Las Adelitas that began performing in 1947.
